OA Support : (currently being funded)Co-ordinator : Shantanu DuttaA further community-based project in Ganpat Patil Nagar slum in Mumbai is being facilitated through Oasis India.The main objectives concentrate on:- Early chilhood care, education and adult literacy- Raising awareness of community health issues and preventative intervention- Establishment of Self Help Groups and Income Generation initiatives- Addressing environmental issues to improve health and cleanliness- Empower SHGs to prevent trafficking, exploitation and to access basic amenities.
OA Support : ongoing from the 1960s (currently being funded)Co-ordinator : Mihir Ranjan SagarBy establishing demonstration projects and training, communities are encouraged to start their own programmes.These include:- Kitchen gardens being promoted by demonstrating the benefits of organic farming, composting and agricultural techniques- Poultry farming - day old chicks are reared and sold for profit which when reinvested becomes self-sustaining- Goat raising programmes and sowing demonstrations- Establishment of Self Help Groups.
OA Support : from January 1995 (currently being funded)Co-ordinator : Mihir Ranjan Sagar- Water tanks (or ponds) are being constructed to catch rainwater run-off to be used during dry months.- Through WUAC local topography is surveyed and bunds constructed.- Existing tanks, some decades old, are maintained and monitored to ensure they remain effective.- On a smaller scale tubewells are installed for agricultural and domestic water.
OA Support : no longer requires fundingCoordinator : E. R. Temsu WathiWith OA support and much effort from the villagers a dam has been constructed in the hills 3km from Akumen village. OA has purchased long-lasting MDPE pipe which is being laid from the dam to the village, giving a year-round supply of clean water direct to the community.
