OA Support : from January 2004 (currently being funded)Operation Agri has funded the building of a 'honey house' from which to run the bee-keeping project, and also the costs of training and supplies. This project aims to provide income for the community around Trapia by setting up beehives, and a honey extraction plant, and selling the honey and wax. The project is overseen by BMS World Mission workers Mike and Daveen Wilson.A problem here in Trapiá is the absence of a reliable source of income. People live off old folks' pensions, and goat-keeping, but this is very affected by the recurring droughts. The evidence for this is that almost everyone is very poor, and many children are chronically malnourished. The idea for bee-keeping came from the Trapiá Baptist church, and the leadership has been involved in researching the feasibility of it and setting it up. The immediate beneficiaries of the project will be the church members, but those involved in running it will pass on their experience to others. At present, no-one else is tackling the problem of income generation in Trapiá.More:
OA Support : from January 1995 (currently being funded)Personnel : Mike and Daveen WilsonOA has, over the years, provided Mike and Daveen's vehicle and we meet its running and maintenance costs. In addition OA provides Daveen with a small fund which she uses to help people with special health needs. The health service in these remote parts is hard to access and focuses mainly on accidents and emergencies rather than long-term conditions, but the fund also helps to provide access to specialist treatment where needed.
