Brazil: land of thieves and honey
Daveen and Mike Wilson, BMS workers in Brazil whose honey house project is supported by Operation Agri, report back on answered prayers and continuing needs in Trapia, Brazil.
Wed like to thank you for praying for some of the members of our community, particularly about the beekeeping and honey harvesting projects OA supports.
In May, we asked you to pray that Edilson, one of the members of our community, would harvest honey this year (after his hives were destroyed last year by a jealous neighbour). Wed like to tell you that he has. Hes not finished yet but, so far, hes harvested a total of 240 litres, and Oziel, a friend of his, another 45 litres. Its a lot less than the 745 litres harvested by another member of our community, but it will make quite a difference to his income and morale.
On Thursday to Friday a few weeks ago, the four men whove been beekeeping the longest - Edilson, Claudio, Dorivan and Pedrinho - decided to harvest their honey all together. We started taking them to collect the frames in their apiaries at 3.00pm on Thursday and they then worked through the night de-capping the combs and extracting the honey. We transported the frames back to the apiaries, finishing up about 3.00pm on the Friday. Despite help from us and our nephew, there were four extremely tired beekeepers by the end. The grand total for the day was 565 litres.
Please continue to pray for safety from robbery. There is a lot of honey stored in the Honey House at the moment which, like the apiaries, has to be quite a distance from any dwelling.
Please also pray for a willingness to work hard and a good spirit for working together on finishing the Honey House and an extension to the building, which we hope to have done in time for the churchs eighth anniversary on 23 July. We had a big work party last Saturday for the painting.
